UNSA and LDC Students Vow to impeach UNSA President Over His Silence as Students Remains Frustrated

A cluster of students from Law Development Centre (LDC) Mbarara have blamed the current Uganda National Student’s Association (UNSA) Mr. Byakutangaza Ezra for his silence on the current frustrating moments for students in Uganda. These are led by Musinguzi John, Agaba Brian and Teyebwa Davis from LDC Mbarara and constitutional members of UNSA who showed their dissatisfaction and need to impeach UNSA president owing to his silence on the ongoing irregularities that students meet on a daily basis ever since government declared lockdown and closure of schools. These blame Byakutangaza for being silent in times that students needed him and the association most.

In the letter aimed at impeaching Byakutanza, the groups point out that UNSA president puts more focus on schools and institutions in the central region leaving other regions aside. “We feel as if you are treating UNSA as a student association only for central institutions and a political nursery bed for your own benefits. Secondly, a call to attention of respect towards your fellow UNSA members, where their rights have been violated by your executive click, your government has denied members of their right to information on the works of the association, including but not limited to projects status updates, budgetary expenditure of the association in the last calendar year. Students from different regions of the country have not benefited from the fruits of the association as members,” the letter reads.

They added that at least students would have been addressed by their representative body following the ongoing situations where a number of students have lost their lives, many have dropped out of school, starving, schools staying closed and UNSA remaining quiet.

Basing on the above, the group has moved on to collect signatures seeking for the impeachment of the current UNSA President.

According to Musinguzi, students alast heard from Byakutangaza when he was lobbying for student’s food that many failed to get.

Our effort to reach out to Byakutangaza were unsuccessful.
