Due to limited space and the increase in the intake population, Makerere University School of Public Health is set to get a new home by 2025 and relocate from Mulago to a new facility which will be built next to Makerere University Eastern Gate. The 30 billion shillings budgeted facility will hold an eight storied building which will cater for a bigger population.

On the budget of the 30 billion, 6 billion was given in by staff, well-wishers and project overheads, 1 billion from the Netherlands, 1 billion as the university constitution and 400M in stakeholders’ pledges. According to Professor Wanyenze, the university is still looking for more funders to make this dream a reality.

The project is aimed at improving scientific research, creating more space for the growing intake population, creating a teaching auditoria, innovation laboratories, environmental health, epidemic, disaster and field epidemiology plus ICT and Data Laboratories.

The construction of the facility was officially started last week on an event that involved Makerere School of Public Health Staff, Rocko Engineering staff and the Netherland’s Ambassador to Uganda.
